CAIRO – 13 April 2025: Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty spoke over the phone with his Omani and Iranian counterparts on Sunday to discuss the latest developments of the negotiations that took place on Saturday between the United States of America and Iran in Muscat.

Abdelatty was briefed on the latest developments regarding the Omani-brokered negotiations between the US and Iran, according to a statement by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Abdelatty voiced Egypt’s support for all efforts leading to political solutions through dialogue and negotiations to enhance stability and security in the region.

Egypt is looking forward to a new phase leading to de-escalation and calm in the region through these negotiations, Abdelatty said. He also voiced Egypt’s aspiration of reaching a permanent ceasefire in Gaza.

The US and Iran held their first round of talks in Oman on Saturday, addressing Tehran's nuclear program.

Both the US and Israel are concerned that Iran is seeking to acquire a nuclear weapon, as it has enriched uranium significantly beyond the 3.67 percent threshold established under the 2015 nuclear agreement, from which the US withdrew in 2018 during Trump’s first term.

Trump has threatened military action against Iran if nuclear talks fail, indicating that Israel could be “the leader” of such an attack.
