CAIRO – 19 March 2025: Egypt condemned the latest attack on the Somali presidential convoy, labeling it an act of terrorism and expressing full solidarity with Somalia and the current President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.

“Egypt expresses its strong condemnation of this criminal terrorist act and rejects all forms of violence and terrorism that aim to destabilize security and stability in Somalia,” said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement on Wednesday.

Egypt extended its condolences to the government and people of Somalia, as well as to the families of the victims, wishing a speedy recovery to the injured.

Mohamud survived a bomb attack that targeted his motorcade near the presidential palace in Mogadishu on Tuesday.

The Somali Ministry of Information stated that the attack resulted in "the death and injury of innocent civilians" and that further details on casualties will be provided "in due course."

Al-Shabaab militants, known for frequently carrying out attacks and bombings targeting government officials and military personnel in Somalia, claimed responsibility for the attack.
The Somali ministry confirmed that the attack was "thwarted" and that Mohamud arrived safely at his destination in Hirshabelle state in south-central Somalia.

The ministry shared photos of Mohamud upon his arrival at the frontlines in Hirshabelle, where Somali troops are engaged in military operations against Al-Shabaab.
