Egyptian FM discusses Arab plan for Gaza Reconstruction with Turkish Counterpart

CAIRO - 9 March 2025: Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigration, Badr Abdelatty, held a meeting on Friday with his Turkish counterpart, Hakan Fidan, on the sidelines of the extraordinary meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Jeddah.

The two sides held talks on the latest developments in the region, including Gaza reconstruction efforts and the latest developments in Syria.

According to a statement released by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Minister Abdelatty briefed his Turkish counterpart on the outcomes of the extraordinary Arab Summit in Cairo, which took place on March 4.

Minister Abdelatty shared details of the five-year plan for the early recovery and reconstruction of Gaza, alongside Egypt's efforts to consolidate the ceasefire agreement in the region and to ensure the effective implementation of its three phases.

For his part, Minister Fidan praised the outcomes of the Arab Summit, particularly the Egyptian reconstruction plan. He also explored ways for Arab and Islamic cooperation within the OIC framework to promote the plan and its implementation, as well as to garner political and material support.

Both ministers also addressed the recent military and security developments in Syria. They reiterated their countries' support for Syria's sovereignty, national institutions, and stability.

Additionally, they emphasized the importance of combating all forms of violence and stressed the need for a comprehensive transitional political process that ensures the participation of all segments of the Syrian population and guarantees the rights of all sects in the country.

The OIC meeting on Friday also announced the restoration of Syria's membership in the organization and endorsed the Arab plan for Gaza's reconstruction.

In regards to bilateral ties, Minister Abdelatty praised the tangible progress in cooperation between Egypt and Turkey across various sectors. He also commended the increase in high-level bilateral visits, which have contributed to strengthening cooperation and elevating relations, especially as both countries mark the 100th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties.
