CAIRO - 22 September 2020: Egyptian expats will vote in the coming parliamentary elections via express mail amid fears of spread of Coronavirus, according to Minister of State for Migration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs Nabila Makram.

In press statements, she explained that the measure is aimed at guaranteeing the highest degree of safety for the Egyptian voters during the elections.

The parliamentary elections will be held inside and outside Egypt next month.

"The measure comes within the framework of commitment by rules and instructions adopted by other countries banning gatherings inside and outside embassies and consulates," Makram added.

She noted that the elections will be held in two phases the first of which covers 14 Egyptian governorates while the second covers 13 governorates.

Candidates running in parliamentary elections should submit a number of papers, including a medical check-up document testing negative to drugs. Accordingly, a number of current MPs underwent necessary medical check-ups, a few days ahead of the start of candidacy registration, which began on September 17 and to last until September 26.
