CAIRO, 24 March 2020: An Italian cruise ship crossed Monday the Suez Canal using remote guidance for the first time ever in the canal's history.

COSTA DIADEMA transited the international waterway as part of the north-bound convoy after coming from the UAE en route to Italy, according to the state news agency, MENA.

Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority Osama Rabei said the move was taken after 65 coronavirus cases were reported to have been on board the ship.

Three senior guides accompanied the vessel while crossing the canal, he added.
