After a two-year hiatus, the 35th session of the General Conference of Egyptian Writers, organized by the General Authority for Culture Palaces, will start on the twenty-ninth of this December, and will be hosted by the New Valley Governorate, under the auspices of Dr. Salmawi, and its general secretariat is assumed by Dr. Hamdi Suleiman, and the session bears the name of the late great critic and thinker Dr. Shaker Abdel Hamid, former Minister of Culture.
Dr. Nevin Al-Kilani, Minister of Culture, said that choosing the New Valley to hold this ancient conference comes in implementation of the Ministry of Culture’s strategy aimed at achieving cultural justice, and bringing activities and events to areas that have been deprived for long periods of cultural services and activities, which helps in discovering creative people in all of Egypt and supporting their talents.
The Minister of Culture added: The Egyptian Writers Conference is witnessing the declaration of the New Valley as the capital of Egyptian culture for the year 2023, which is considered a great opportunity to present cultural and artistic activities in the centers and villages of the governorate, to enrich the cultural movement, and shed light on the unique cultural, heritage and artistic diversity that the governorate enjoys.
The artist Hisham Atwa, head of the General Authority for Culture Palaces, said that the 35th session will be held under the title “Cultural Action and the Problem of Meaning”, and more than 350 writers, researchers and media professionals will participate in it, including public figures, senior writers, and representatives of literary clubs. Notable literary names will be honored, indicating that the authority It has completed all the necessary preparations for setting up a successful and exceptional session befitting the name of Egypt's writers and its soft power, as the conference is considered the largest cultural and literary gathering of Egyptian writers and intellectuals from all governorates. Muhammad Al-Zamlot for hosting the conference, believing in the importance of cultural action in the comprehensive development process that the country is witnessing.
For his part, the poet Masoud Shoman, Head of the Central Department of Cultural Affairs at the General Authority for Cultural Palaces, confirmed that the research project of the conference includes several axes, each of which includes a large number of studies and research papers. The conference also holds a number of cultural and artistic events on the sidelines of its main research sessions and round tables. And the Central Upper Egypt region will present a group of cultural and artistic activities in the Dakhla Oasis, and competitions to discover talents.
