The Sharjah Book Authority is participating in the activities of the 53rd session of the Cairo International Book Fair, which will be held from January 26 to February 6, at the Egypt International Exhibition Center in the Fifth Settlement in Cairo, under the slogan "Egypt's identity... Culture and the question of the future."
The pavilion of the Sharjah Book Authority was visited by Dr. Mustafa Madbouly, Prime Minister of Egypt, in the presence of Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, President of the International Publishers Association, and Ahmed bin Rakad Al Ameri, President of the Sharjah Book Authority at the Authority’s pavilion. The pavilion also received a number of official figures and representatives of cultural institutions. And a group of senior Arab and foreign intellectuals, writers and innovators.
Dr. Mustafa Madbouly received from Ahmed Al Ameri a copy of the “Historical Dictionary of the Arabic Language”, the great linguistic project sponsored by Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, and chronicles for the first time the vocabulary of the language of Dhad and the transformations of its use over the past 17 centuries.
Dr. Mustafa Madbouly praised the cultural experience of the Emirate of Sharjah and its role in supporting the cultural movement in the region and presenting an image worthy of Arab culture to the whole world, pointing out that the efforts of the Ruler of Sharjah did a lot not only for the current Arab knowledge, but for its future, and this is evident in the historical dictionary of the Arabic language.
During its participation, the authority sheds light on aspects of the Emirate of Sharjah's cultural project and its contribution to developing the publishing movement and supporting knowledge production and translation, through its special pavilion, which provides a vivid image of the initiatives, projects and major events led by the authority at the local and international levels.
During its participation, the authority presents the vision of the "Sharjah International Book Fair", which recorded the history of the largest book fair in the world at the level of buying and selling rights in the year 2021, and reveals to Egyptian, Arab and foreign publishers the services and facilities provided by the "Sharjah Publishing City Free Zone", and also introduces the creators of writers And illustrators on the "Sharjah Children's Reading Festival" and the "Sharjah International Agency for Literary Rights", in addition to the awards granted by the authority in the fields of translation, authorship and other efforts that support the publishing movement.
On the authority’s participation in the exhibition, Ahmed Al Ameri said: “The Sharjah Book Authority’s participation in the Cairo International Book Fair translates the vision of Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, in promoting constructive and fruitful communication with counterpart cultural institutions in the region and the world, and opening pathways Sharjah built its civilized experience by investing in books and advancing the awareness of the individual and society, looking forward to a comprehensive and sustainable renaissance of Arab culture, and believing in the vital role that book fairs play in this context.
He added: "Egypt is great with its history and the depth of its cultural experience, and with the symbols of literature and art that it presented to the Arab and international cultural scene, and we in Sharjah are aware of the impact of Egypt in making a tangible difference in the future of Arab knowledge and book. Participation is an opportunity to enhance areas of cooperation and joint work with Egyptian and Arab cultural institutions, and a gateway for publishers to benefit from the services provided by Sharjah to writers, creators and artists at all levels.”
Within the activities of the cultural program accompanying the exhibition, the authority organized a symposium entitled "The Historical Dictionary of the Arabic Language... The Story of Birth and Evolution" in cooperation with the Arabic Language Academy in Sharjah, in which Dr. Muhammad Safi Al Mosteghanemi, Secretary General of the Arabic Language Complex in Sharjah, and Executive Director of the Historical Dictionary, participated in it. Dr. Mamoun Wajih, Scientific Director of the Historical Dictionary, and Issa Saleh Al Hammadi, Director of the Educational Center for the Arabic Language for the Gulf States, during which they reviewed the efforts of Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, in protecting the Arabic language by adopting the dictionary project that chronicles words Arabic and its connotations through the ages.
