CAIRO – 24 August 2020: Egypt’s industrial production index for transformative and extractive industries, excluding crude oil and petroleum products, hiked 21 percent, recording LE 104.7 (primary) during June 2020, compared to LE 86.6 (final) during May 2020, the state's statistics body said.
The index of tobacco products industry reached 138.7 during June 2020, up from 76 in May 2020, marking an increase of 82.5 percent, due to the increase in demand for smoke with the return of the activity of cafes and restaurant and the reduction of the duration of the curfew.
The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) added that the index of the chemical material and products industry increased to 106.8 in June, compared to 89.3, recording a rise of 19.6 percent, ue to the repercussions of the coronavirus pandemic.
Moreover, the computers, electronic and optical products, and medical devices industry index hiked 26.5percent, reaching 135.2 during June 2020, compared to reaching 106.9 in February. CAPMAS attributed the hike to the increase in demand for medical devices such as radiology and ventilators.
The index of pharmaceutical, chemical and pharmaceutical industries hit 122.7 during June 2020 compared to 107.9 in May, recording a increase of 13.8 percent, due to the increased demand for pharmaceutical and pharmaceutical products as a result of the repercussions of the coronavirus pandemic.
The index of other transportation equipment industry reached 316.8 in June 2020, compared to 108.2 in May 2020, with an increase of 192.9 percent, due to the increased production of railway cars and transportation equipment.
