CAIRO – 11 October 2025: Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received a phone call from German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, on Friday, which mainly focused on the latest ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas in Gaza
The Spokesman for the Presidency, Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy, said the call reviewed Egypt's latest efforts, in coordination with the relevant parties, to end the war in Palestinian strip.
Sisi reviewed the details of the agreement reached on October 8th, in Sharm El-Sheikh and presented Egypt's views for the next phase and the mechanisms for implementing the agreement, based on US President Donald Trump's plan.
The President emphasized the importance of preserving the role and status of the Palestinian Authority and creating conditions conducive for establishing a Palestinian state in accordance with international legitimacy. The President extended an invitation to the German chancellor to participate in the celebration that Egypt will host, marking the signing of the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip.
The German chancellor expressed his country's appreciation for Egypt's viral role in reaching the ceasefire agreement and affirmed Germany's support for this agreement, hoping it will constitute a step toward achieving lasting peace in the region. He also looked forward for Egypt to host the Gaza reconstruction conference.
The call also touched on the overall relations between Egypt and Germany, as well as relations between Egypt and the European Union. President El-Sisi affirmed Egypt's keenness to enhance cooperation with Germany in various fields.
