Responding to questions over statements made by the Israeli minister over the past two days, an informed source said Egypt firmly rejects bringing Sinai into such remarks.
The source said what it described as empty threats coincided with Egypt’s celebrations marking the 53rd anniversary of the October 1973 victory, adding that Egypt’s ability to defend its territory and safeguard its independence against any threat requires no further affirmation.
No Displacement to Sinai
Egypt will neither accept nor participate in any attempt to force Palestinians from their land or transfer the consequences of the Gaza crisis onto Egyptian territory.
Sinai and Gaza Displacement
The source described the Israeli finance minister’s remarks concerning Sinai and the displacement of Palestinians from Gaza as a clear attempt to use escalatory rhetoric for electoral purposes.
It stressed that Egypt would neither accept nor participate in any attempt to force Palestinians from their land.
• No forced displacement of Palestinians from Gaza
• No use of Sinai as part of any displacement scenario
• Full protection of Egypt’s sovereignty and territorial integrity
• Continued rejection of political pressure involving Egyptian territory
Egypt’s Red Line
Cairo has repeatedly maintained that Palestinians must remain on their land and that Egypt will not take part in measures aimed at ending the Palestinian cause through displacement.
The source said the international community was aware that the Israeli occupation had made living conditions in Gaza nearly impossible in an effort to push Palestinians out of the territory and bring an end to the Palestinian cause.
Egypt, the source stressed, has consistently rejected such a scenario and would not take part in its implementation.
No Political Point-Scoring
The source also said Egypt rejects attempts to invoke its name in political maneuvering and remains committed to its longstanding position of non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries.
