CAIRO - 2 December 2020: Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry headed to the Saudi capital, Riyadh, on Tuesday, to preside over the joint Egyptian-Saudi political consultation committee.

Developments related to the Palestinian Cause after the international updates especially the US presidential elections, and the situations in Yemen, Syria, and Libya, are expected to be at the forefront of the committee’s discussions.

The visit comes after a series of coordinated meetings that brought together diplomats and assistants to the Ministers of Foreign Affairs to both countries on Monday.

During the Tuesday meeting, Shoukry and his Saudi counterpart Faisal bin Farhan Al-Saud are expected to discuss the growing challenges in the region and solutions, as well as international developments of mutual interest to the two countries.

The meeting will also emphasise the mutual solidarity between Egypt and Saudi Arabia in facing issues that threaten their respective security, stability, as well as Arab national security. It will also aim to discuss methods of pushing bilateral cooperation to broader horizons.

In July, Shoukry and Bin Farhan affirmed, during talks in Cairo, that Egypt and Saudi Arabia are coordinating on all issues of concern to the region. These focus on the situations in Yemen, Syria, and Libya, combating terrorism, and confronting the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
