CAIRO, February 1st, 2026: President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi met with Jordan’s King Abdullah II in Cairo on Sunday to discuss regional developments and bilateral relations, the Egyptian presidency said.
The talks came as regional diplomatic efforts over Gaza intensify, with Egypt and Jordan publicly backing a UN-supported framework to end the war and manage the post-conflict phase. Last week, both countries reiterated their support for the proposed “Board of Peace” during meetings in Amman between Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and his Jordanian counterpart Ayman Safadi, According to Ahram Online.
Both sides said their position is consistent with UN Security Council Resolution 2803, which outlines a comprehensive approach to ending the conflict in Gaza and overseeing transitional arrangements.
According to statements issued after the Amman talks, Egypt and Jordan stressed that the Board of Peace must operate strictly within its transitional mandate. That mandate includes supporting the ceasefire, ensuring unimpeded humanitarian access to Gaza, and helping create conditions for the Palestinian Authority (PA) to resume its responsibilities in the territory.
The two countries also reaffirmed their commitment to preserving the territorial unity of the occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip, and to a two-state solution based on the 4 June 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as the capital of a future Palestinian state.
Egyptian and Jordanian officials warned that Israel's military operations in the occupied West Bank risk fuelling further escalation and undermining prospects for a lasting political settlement.
Beyond Gaza, the talks underscored the depth of Egyptian–Jordanian relations, with both sides pledging to strengthen cooperation, particularly in economic and investment sectors, and to maintain close coordination on regional and Arab issues in support of regional security and stability.
