President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi issued presidential decrees on Thursday to appoint new prosecutor-general and acting deputy head of the Administrative Control Authority (ACA), Egypt's independent general oversight body.

Sisi appointed Mohamed Shawki Ayad, president of the Alexandria court of appeals, as the prosecutor-general, starting from 19 September, Presidential Spokesman Ahmed Fahmy said in a Facebook post.

Ayad is succeeding incumbent Hamada El-Sawi, who has served in the post since September 2019.

Also, Sisi issued a decree to appoint counselor Tamer Fergany, head of the illicit gain department at the Ministry of Justice, as acting deputy chairman of the Administrative Control Authority (ACA), the spokesman said.

Egypt’s new prosecutor-general Ayad served as the president of the Alexandria Court of Appeal and a member of the technical office of the Cairo Court of Appeal.

He also served as an assistant to the minister of justice for judicial inspection affairs and also worked as an investigative judge in many important positions.

Meanwhile, new acting deputy chairman of the ACA Fergany was appointed as the head of the illicit gain department at the Ministry of Justice in 2020 after counselor Adel El-Said.

Fergany was also appointed as a general attorney for the Supreme State Security Prosecution in 2013.
