Egypt’s Justice Minister Omar Marwan headed for Geneva, Switzerland, on Saturday to lead a high-level delegation to review the fifth periodical report submitted to the United Nations Human Rights Committee (UNHRC), slated for Tuesday and Wednesday.
In November, 2019, Egypt had submitted its regular report that will be probed on schedule, according to a statement by the Justice Ministry.
The delegation includes representatives from the foreign and justice ministries and the Public Prosecution, said the statement.
President of the National Council for Women (NCW) Maya Morsy and Chairperson of the National Coordinating Committee for Combatting and Preventing Illegal Migration and Trafficking in Persons Naela Gabr are also among the delegation.
The Justice Ministry said Egypt’s submission of the fifth periodic report comes within the context of a national ambitious plan that the Egyptian state has adopted to preserve and guarantee human rights at various levels and meet its relevant international commitments.
Over the past years, Egypt has worked on stepping up its efforts aimed at protecting human rights.
In September 2021, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi launched the country’s first National Strategy for Human Rights to protect the rights of the society in all fields, especially the marginalized groups.
Egypt has also reiterated that it addresses human rights via various dimensions, including political, social, health, and educational rights.
