CAIRO – 12 August 2022: Egyptian Foreign Minister and President-Designate of UN Climate Change Conference 2022 (UNFCCC COP 27), Sameh Shoukry, had a phone call with China's Special Envoy on Climate Change Xie Zhenhua on Thursday.
The top officials tackled the outcome of their meeting held in May 2022 on the sidelines of the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos, and discussed the most important topics that will be raised during COP 27.
Shoukry and Zhenhua also stressed the necessity of continuing the global effort to mitigate climate change impacts, commending the level of cooperation between the two parties on climate issues at the bilateral and multilateral levels.
In a meeting between the Group of 77 and China in Germany’s Bonn at the 56th session of the subsidiary bodies held from June 6-16, Shoukry reviewed the priorities of the Egyptian presidency for COP27, most notably fulfilling climate pledges and ensuring that the conference yields balanced results that address the top issues.
Shoukry highlighted the vital role played by the Group of 77 and China to put forward the interests of the developing countries regarding climate change negotiations.
Egypt looks forward to the participation of all countries and parties concerned with climate action in all the conference’s activities, underscoring that the international community should attach extensive attention to climate change amid the consequential developments.
