CAIRO – 12 October 2021: Egypt’s government denied, Monday the rumors that there was a shortage of drugs in the treatment protocols for the Coronavirus and oxygen stocks in the isolation hospitals, coinciding with the fourth wave of the virus.
The government stressed the availability of all medicines in the treatment protocols for the Coronavirus in all governorates, which are being updated to comply with the variants and complications of COVID-19.
It was added that there are continuous follow-up and monitoring of the medicines’ availability on a daily basis to supply hospitals with additional quantities of them immediately before running out.
Head of the Department of Allergy and Immunology at VACSERA Amjad El-Haddad, confirmed that by the end of 2021, 70 percent of the Egyptians will be vaccinated according to presidential directives.
Dr. Amjad Haddad added in a phone call with TV show that the health system has 15 million doses of the Sinovac vaccine awaiting their release to vaccinate citizens.
He added that within two months, that the vaccination campaign will include soon young citizens aged 17 and the 16-year-old. He explained that the age of entitled to the vaccination will gradually decreases as the availability of vaccinations increases.
The Health Ministry said Sunday night that 837 new coronavirus cases were detected, upping the total number of confirmed infections since the outbreak in the country began to 312,413.
In a statement, Spokesman for the Health Ministry Khaled Megahed said 37 patients have died from the virus over the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 17,695.
As many as 903 patients were discharged from isolation hospitals after receiving necessary medical care, taking the number of recovered cases to 263,557 so far, the spokesman said.
