CAIRO – 23 February 2021: Egypt's Minister of Planning and Economic Development Hala El-Said approved to allocate LE 300 million to the rehabilitation of the drainage system in Alexandria Governorate in order to inhibit disasters and harness rainwater.

El-Said asserted the ministry’s keenness on achieving rapid steps to raise the efficiency of the sewage and drainage systems in Alexandria Governorate before the onset of the coming winter season in October 2021.

The minister added that the approved amount came within the framework of the Prime Minister’s directives to meet urgent needs of sewage projects in Alexandria Governorate, as part of the state’s efforts to deal with the torrential rains in Alexandria.

"The ministry is keen to support the implementation of major national projects and to confront and overcome any challenges or obstacles they face," she explained.

El-Said added that the government prioritizes sanitation projects, the need to support these projects, and providing the required finances to implement any urgent projects in this regard.

On a recent basis, El-Said has approved a grant of LE 78.7 million for Alexandria Governorate’s Lake Mariout purification project, as part of the current fiscal year (FY) 2020/21 plan.
