Today, Dr. Khaled Al-Anani, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, received at the Ministry's headquarters in Zamalek, Dr. Ghada Wali, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations, Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and Director-General of the United Nations Headquarters in Vienna, to discuss strengthening aspects of cooperation in areas of common interest.


The meeting discussed ways to address illegal trafficking in cultural property in light of international conventions related to describing this phenomenon as one of the types of transnational organized crime, as well as the relationship between this phenomenon and other types of crime such as money laundering, trafficking in persons and terrorist financing.

They also discussed the preparations and equipment related to Egypt's hosting of the international gathering "Cairo Conference for the Protection of Cultural Heritage: Global Measures to Disrupt Chains of Illicit Trafficking and Protect Cultural Property", which will be held in the coming period, in cooperation with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). ) and the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO).

The meeting was attended by Shaaban Abdel-Gawad, General Supervisor of the Administration of Recovered Antiquities, Minister Plenipotentiary Dalia Abdel-Fattah, General Supervisor of the General Department of International Relations and Agreements, Sherine Ramy, Head of the Africa and Middle East Sector, Christina Albertina, Regional Representative of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, and Counselor Ihab El-Manbawi, a criminal justice expert in the office.
