The Sultan Qalawun Group is one of the most famous architectural monuments in Cairo. It was built in the Mamluk Islamic style. The group includes a mosque, a school, a mausoleum, and a bimaristan to treat the sick. Sultan al-Mansur Seif al-Din Qalawun, one of the most prominent sultans of the marine Mamluk era, ordered it in 678 AH / 1279 AD. It was completed in 784 AH / 1382 AD.
The group is located in the al-Nahhasin area of al-Muizz Lidin Allah al-Fatimi Street in the part known as Bain al-Kasserine. Adjacent to the group are several Islamic monuments. Next to it are the Mosque and Madrasah of Al-Nasir Qalawun, a mosque, Madrasah, Khanaqah, Al-Zahir Barquq, then the Kamiliya School, Hammam Sultan Inal, opposite it is the Sabil and Kitab Khusraw Pasha, the Madrasah and Dome of Najm al-Din Ayyub, the Madrassa of al-Zahir Baybars, then the Sabil of Muhammad Ali and the palace of Prince Bashtak.
