Egypt's Min of Tourism & Antiquities meets the Executive Director of the International Council for Tourism and Travel

Khaled Al-Anani, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, met with Julia Simpson, Executive Director of the World Tourism and Travel Council (WTTC), and this comes within the framework of the professional meetings held by the Minister during his current visit to the Spanish capital, Madrid, to participate in the work of the 114th session of the Executive Council of the World Tourism Organization, within the framework of the session’s work. During the meeting, a number of files were discussed that would enhance cooperation between the Ministry and the Council and permanent coordination between the private and government tourism sector to face the challenges that the tourism sector may face in the future due to the repercussions of the Corona virus pandemic, in addition to discussing the file of sustainable tourism and what it does. The Minister also reviewed the developments in the Egyptian tourist destination and the efforts made by the state to advance the tourism sector, and files related to sustainable tourism, referring to Egypt’s hosting of the United Nations Climate Change Conference 2022 “COP 27” in Sharm El Sheikh, and its hosting during the first quarter of next year for the meeting. The minister also talked about the imminent openings such as the Grand Egyptian Museum and the new administrative capital, the ministry’s efforts in the digital transformation file, and the electronic services that are provided to tourists, noting that the ministry is about to launch an electronic application via the mobile phone “Mobile Application” to promote the Egyptian tourist destination locally and internationally.

The minister indicated that the ministry is always keen to raise awareness of tourism and archeology among citizens, especially children and youth.

Julia Simpson expressed the readiness of the International Tourism and Travel Council to provide all aspects of technical support necessary to advance the tourism sector to meet the challenges that the tourism sector may face in the future, in addition to coordinating joint efforts in the field of sustainable tourism.

She also praised the "Luxor...The Road of Rams" event that was held last week, stressing that this event will increase the demand to visit the Egyptian tourist destination and enjoy its diverse tourist and archaeological elements.
