In pics: Cairo Airport Museum receives mummies, canopic jars, bronze statue, sculptures

Cairo International Airport Museum located at the airport’s Terminal 3 has received a number of artifacts from the Egyptian Museum and the Suez National Museum’s stores, in preparation for its opening.

The head of the ministry’s museums department Moamen Osman explained that the 12 transferred artifacts were carefully selected by the Supreme Committee for Museum Scenarios to enrich the museum exhibits.

The transferred artifacts contains three mummies decorated with gilded cartonnage and painted scenes, a number of canopic jars, a bronze statue of a winged Isis, and some sculptures from the Greek and Roman eras.

The secretary-general of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, Mostafa Waziri, announced a detailed report about every artefact was prepared.


Waziri assured that the artifacts were transferred following all the international scientific methods, also each piece was packed alone inside a box lined with reinforced foam and supporting it with straps to protect the transferred artifacts from any kind of vibrations during the transfer process.

Osman added that the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities is currently working on launching another museum at the airport inside Terminal 2 with an area of 150 square metres.
