CAIRO – 27 January 2026: A fresh liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargo for January 2026 has been shipped to global energy company Shell, Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources announced. The cargo was loaded from the Idku liquefaction complex (ELNG) and carries around 150,000 cubic meters of LNG aboard the tanker Methane Becki Anne, which is heading to a Turkish port.
The ministry said the continued export of LNG cargoes reflects Egypt’s commitment to fulfilling its contractual obligations with foreign investment partners.
These exports are intended to support further investment inflows, expand domestic gas production, enhance value creation, and optimize the utilization of Egypt’s LNG infrastructure, reinforcing the country’s position as a regional hub for gas trading and distribution.
Earlier this month, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly reiterated the government’s commitment to settling all outstanding dues owed to foreign petroleum companies in accordance with the agreed repayment schedule.
Madbouly noted that as of June 30, 2024, outstanding arrears stood at $6.1 billion and are projected to decline to $1.2 billion by June 30, 2026, which represents the normal level of obligations.
He added that nearly $5 billion has already been repaid, alongside the government’s continued adherence to timely payment of monthly invoices to its partners.
