CAIRO – 18 May 2020: Egypt’s strategic reserves of basic commodities are sufficient for 5 months, according to Minister of Supply Ali Moselhy.
Moselhy said in a statement, Monday, that the safe period in the strategic reserves reaches 3 months, noting that his country has developed a plan to increase the strategic reserve of goods to prevent any movement in prices in conjunction with the crisis of coronavirus outbreak.
He pointed out that there is a general trend to increase reserves, whether wheat or basic commodities, in order to achieve food security.
The Minister of Supply indicated that 2.725 thousand tons of local wheat have been received from farmers since mid-April.
He explained that the conditions during the current season contributed to the increase in supplies compared to 2019, due to the cultivated areas or the desire of farmers to obtain funds to be spent during the holidays, explaining that the ministry continues to receive wheat from farmers until July 15.
He emphasized that the developed silos and granaries will receive suppliers of local wheat from the third day of the feast.
