CAIRO – 24 January 2026: As the second phase of the peace agreement gets underway, international relations expert Tarek El-Bardisi said Egypt has once again underscored its role as a cornerstone of stability in the Gaza Strip.
El-Bardisi noted that this role is rooted in Egypt’s longstanding historical responsibility toward the Palestinian cause.
He added that Cairo has adopted a dual-track approach, combining diplomatic pressure with practical on-the-ground efforts to ensure all parties adhere to the agreement, particularly with regard to sustaining the ceasefire and enabling the continuous and unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid into Gaza.
According to El-Bardisi, the second phase of the agreement represents a critical test of the international community’s commitment. He stressed that Egypt is actively working across multiple channels to prevent the agreement from being undermined, including through close coordination with the United Nations and sustained communication with influential international actors.
The expert emphasized that the continued flow of Egyptian aid convoys into the Gaza Strip reflects a tangible and practical commitment, rather than mere political rhetoric. He pointed out that the aid includes food, medicines, and medical supplies, in light of the extremely challenging humanitarian conditions facing the population.
El-Bardisi concluded by stressing that Egypt’s approach is inseparable from a comprehensive political solution, arguing that consolidating the truce should serve as a gateway to reviving the peace process in a manner that safeguards Palestinian rights and prevents the recurrence of cycles of violence that threaten regional security and stability.
