We are proud to have strong American participation in EDEX-2018: U.S. Chargé d’Affaires

CAIRO – 4 December 2018: The first edition of Egypt’s international Egypt Defense Expo (EDEX-2018) kicked off Monday, in the presence of President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi, with the participation of over 40 U.S. companies.

Give a warm welcome, the U.S. companies were mostly represented by top officials who flew in from their respective companies’ headquarters to take part in this event.

Offering state of the art technology, the delegation was keep to share its expertise with those attending, as well as other participating.

The official U.S. delegation attending EDEX includes U.S. Embassy Cairo Chargé d’Affaires Thomas Goldberger, Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army for Defense Exports and Cooperation Ann Cataldo, Defense Security Cooperation Agency Principal Director Michele Hizon, Director of the Department of Commerce’s Advocacy Center Stephen Renna, and Senior U.S. Defense Official in Egypt Major General Ralph Groover.

“We are proud to have strong American participation in this event and will continue to work with the Egyptian government and U.S. companies to see that Egypt has the tools it needs to ensure its security”, said Chargé d’Affaires Thomas Goldberger in press statements.

Goldberger added that EDEX reveals Egypt’s value in Africa, the Middle East, and the Mediterranean sea, along with Egypt’s strong partnership with the US.

Goldberger told Egypt Today that more than forty American company participate in the event to showcase the most recent military weapons, represented by senior officials.

Goldberger asserted the strong ties between Cairo and Washington adding that the US government is seeking to broaden its cooperation with the Egyptian army.

In a meeting that came on the margins of EDEX-2018 between President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi and Cypriot Defense Minister Savvas Angelides, Angelides praised Egypt for organizing the military exhibition, and expressed his admiration of the special participation of the world’s leading companies in this field, which confirms Egypt’s pivotal role in the Middle East and the Mediterranean, Presidential Spokesman Bassam Rady added.

 

Angelides also lauded the special relations between the two countries, affirming the aspiration of his country to continue to open new ways for cooperation between Egypt and Cyprus to serve the interests of the two friendly peoples.

 

Sisi also met with French Minister of Armed Forced Florence Parly on the sidelines of EDEX-2018.

 

During the meeting Parly confirmed her keenness to attend the “EDEX-2018,” saying that her country is proud of the participation of the French companies in the exhibition. The minister also expressed congratulations to Egypt on the successful organization of such event.

 

The meeting discussed ways to enhance military cooperation between the two countries, as well as the latest developments in regional and international issues of common concern, especially ways to combat terrorism and reduce the danger of terrorist elements and their transfer from hotbeds of tension to other areas, Rady said.

 

During the meeting, President Sisi stressed the depth of the strategic relations between Egypt and France, praising the existing cooperation between the two countries in various fields, especially in the military field.

 

Sisi also expressed the hope to develop bilateral cooperation in a way that serves the common interests of both countries and contributes to the development and prosperity of their peoples, Precidential Spokesman Bassam Rady said.
