CAIRO - 24 September 2019: Nearly 60 Million Egyptians have been examined in less than one year by 100 Million Seha (Health) medical initiative, launched by the Egyptian government, according to President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi.
This came during the president's speech, on Monday, Sept. 23 at the Health Care session of the United Nations General Assembly, where Sisi also affirmed that Egypt has prioritized developing the health sector.
Sisi added that nearly half of the world’s citizens are suffering due to lack of proper health care services.
Last August, the World Health Organization Director-General, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, called Egypt's 100 Million Seha initiative as “the biggest campaign to be implemented by a state.”
Adhanom met President Sisi, where they discussed the circumstances of 100 Million Seha campaign. During the meeting, he considered such campaign as the biggest ever of its kind throughout history. He also met with Health Minister Hala Zayed.
Egypt's presidency announced in 2018 launching 100 Million Seha campaign to detect and treat Hepatitis C and other chronic diseases among Egyptians and Africans. The campaign lasted between October 2018 and April 2019, and screened 45 million citizens for the blood-borne disease, according to the ministry.
Adhanom also hailed the presidential initiative for caring about the health of women, thanking President Sisi for starting these initiatives which have succeeded at the international level.
