CAIRO – 14 December 2022: Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi highlighted Egypt's keenness to strengthen relations with the U.S. in all aspects, within a framework of mutual respect and common interest in a meeting with Friends of Egypt group in the US Congress.
President Sisi stressed during the meeting on the importance of strategic decades-old relations between Egypt and the United States, said Presidential Spokesman Bassam Radi on Wednesday.
Sisi also highlighted Egypt's keenness to strengthen relations with the U.S. in all aspects, within a framework of mutual respect and common interest, especially in light of the ‘turbulent developments’ in the region along with the growing threat of terrorism, whose repercussions have affected many countries.
Members of the Friends of Egypt Group in the U.S. Congress valued the depth of joint cooperation between the two friendly countries, stressing the great importance that the United States attaches to relations with Egypt.
They described Egypt as a “pillar of security and stability in the Middle East” and the Arab world, as well as being a pivotal partner of the United States in the region.
The US Congress members also expressed deep appreciation for Egypt's successful and effective role in combating terrorism and extremist ideology, reforming religious discourse, and establishing noble concepts and values of freedom of belief and tolerance.
Radi added that the meeting witnessed discussing ways to enhance bilateral between the two countries.
They also discussed regional developments, especially with regard to developments in the Palestinian cause, where the members of Congress praised the Egyptian efforts in support of the peace process, while the President affirmed his position of In this regard.
President Abdel Fattah El Sisi arrived on Tuesday in Washington DC, to participate in the activities of the US-African Summit, according to Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
He stated that President Sisi intends to focus during the summit on issues of concern to African countries in light of the existing global challenges, to strengthen the African-American partnership to confront the food security crisis, and to facilitate the integration of African countries into the global economy.
Abu Zeid noted that the President's visit to the United States includes holding meetings with number of senior American officials, in order to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.
It is also scheduled that President Sisi will hold a meeting with members of the American business community to discuss ways to develop cooperation in the economic, trade and investment fields between the two sides.
On the sidelines of the summit, Sisi will meet with number of heads of state and government participating in the African-American summit, in order to discuss boosting bilateral cooperation along with regional and international developments.
