Egypt’s Sisi directs to transform Nasser Institute for Research into integrated medical city Tue, Apr. 5, 2022
CAIRO – 5 April 2022: Egypt's President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has directed the government to transform Nasser Institute for Research and Treatment into a research hub and an integrated medical city, Egyptian Presidential Spokesperson Bassam Rady said on Monday.

President Sisi’s directed were given during a meeting with Prime Minister Mustafa Madbouli and Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Khaled Abdel Ghaffar.

During the meeting, Abdel Ghaffar made a presentation of a development plan for the Institute. He said that it will include new buildings for abdominal and pediatric diseases, outpatient clinics, a genetic disease research center and laboratory, as well as an airstrip, besides providing a river ambulance service.

The development plan aims at expanding the oncology building, the Minister said, adding “the institute is one of the most important pillars of the health system in Egypt, where it receives about 1.6 million patients annually.”

President Sisi also directed to establish of the Egyptian Academy of Mathematical Sciences to embrace the brilliant in auditing field and providing them with scientific support, which contributes to the academic linking between mathematics and emerging technologies, and the development of the software industry and cybersecurity in Egypt, Rady continued.

The Minister of Higher Education also briefed the President on the activities of the Glasgow's Royal College of Physicians and Surgeon in Egypt, which will begin this year to provide training programs and hold fellowship exams in the field of ophthalmology in cooperation with the Egyptian Institute of Ophthalmology Research, and in dentistry in cooperation with the Faculty of Dentistry at Ain Shams University.

Then, the President directed the establishment of a permanent headquarters of the Glasgow's Royal College of Physicians and Surgeon in the new administrative capital

The President was also briefed on the latest developments regarding the implementation of presidential initiatives in the health sector, in particular the initiative to eliminate waiting lists, besides, the epidemiological situation of the Covid-19 virus in Egypt.
