Putin shed lights on the developing bilateral relations, thanking President Sisi on being a co-chairperson of the African-Russian Summit due to convene in October in Russia city of Sochi.
President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi arrived Beijing early Thursday to attend the second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation (BRFIC). The initiative is a revival to what was known as “The Silk Road.”
It is worth mentioning that this isn’t the first time for the two presidents to meet:
The first meeting came at the beginning of November 2014, when Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, who was then Defense Minister, headed to Moscow, the visit that followed the Russian welcome to the June 30 revolution.
Two months later Al-Sisi became the President of Egypt, and decided to visit Russia for a second time. President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi was received in Sochi. Once he entered the Russian airspace, he was greeted by a squadron of Russian fighter jets as an expression from Russia how they appreciate him. The two presidents agreed during the meeting to strengthen relations between the two countries.
The third meeting was when President Putin visited Egypt for the first time in 10 years. It was agreed then on a counter-terrorism approach in the region.
Then the fourth meeting was held in Moscow in May 2015, during President Sisi's invitation to attend the 70th anniversary of Russia's victory in the Second World War against Nazism as one of 68 invited presidents.
The fifth and longest meeting in 2015 was in Auguest, a three-day visit from Al Sisi to Moscow and the relations between the two countries took a qualitative leap.
September 2016 – September 2017
The two presidents then met the sixth and seventh meetings at the first two summits of the G-20 Summit in China and the Brix Summit in 2016 and 2017.
The eighth meeting between the presidents of Egypt and Russia was while attending a ceremony for the inking of a deal to start work on the Dabaa nuclear power plant, with Russia providing funding and technical expertise.
