The International Mission Monitoring the Referendum Indicates an Increase In The Participation on the 3rd day

CAIRO – 22 April2019: Further to the work of the International Mission for the follow-up to the Referendum on the Constitutional Amendments, Egypt 2019. For the third day in a row, the mission issues this report as part of a series of daily reports on the constitutional referendum process.

The mission participates in the follow-up to the referendum through a delegation of 69 members in 14 Egyptian governorates. The coalition includes 4 international and local organizations from three continents, ECO organizations from Greece, a forum from Uganda, Maat for peace, development and human rights from Egypt.

According to the observations of the delegations of the international mission, as well as field follow-up of local observers in 14 governorates, the following was noted:

The mission monitored in Cairo governorate increased participation rates significantly compared to the first two days of the vote, where queues of citizens were held in front of the "Martyr School Ibrahim Saleh Al-Matairiya" and in most of Helmeyat al-Zaytoun schools, and drew attention to the exit of mass rallies to participate in the voting process in several streets in Nasr City, as well as in the Salalm City, especially in the Committee, "Ms. Sumaya School".

In Fayoum, despite the weakness of turnout on the first and second day of polling, the third day saw the high participation rates in Atsa centers, especially in the village of "El-Ghark", which saw the spread of Tuktuks and cars carrying citizens free of charge to the polling stations. In the center of Fayoum, participation rates also increased significantly in the villages of the center, especially in the committees of the village "Snofer", and increased participation in the center of Joseph Siddiq, especially in the committees, "Syed al-Khader".

In Menoufia, participation increased significantly in the centers of "Ashmoun, Menouf" and the average turnout is still at the center of Shebin El Koum.

In Sohag, the situation differed clearly from the past days, as participation in the committees of the Tama Center increased, especially in the village of "Mashta".

In Kafr al-Sheikh, the turnout in the department of the first section of Kafr el-Sheikh, and the influx of hundreds of citizens in front of the committee, "martyr peace No. 12".
It is worth noting that national songs and cars have spread in several provinces to transfer voters to polling stations, as well as the proliferation of celebrations of constitutional amendments before some committees. The Mission commends the facilitation of the international observers 'access to all polling stations' headquarters today, and to let them do their job freely.
