CAIRO - 11 July 2020: Egypt's President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi sent congratulations cables to South Sudan president Silva Kiir and Mongolian President Khaltmaagiin Battulga on their independence days, Egypt’s state-owned news agency MEAN reported on Saturday.
South Sudan got its independence from Sudan on July 9, 2011 in accordance with an agreement signed between two countries and ended a civil war that lasted for decades.
Egypt has strong relations with south sudan; in May, Egypt has sent a second military plane carrying medical aid to South Sudan, as per presidential directives, in an effort to help Juba fight the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
In his meeting with Egyptian Speaker of the Parliament Ali Abdel-Aal in december 2019, the South sudanese President said his country will never forget Cairo’s stances and support for South Sudan, especially with the Sudanese students who study at Egypt’s universities.
