The General Union of Arab Writers and Writers, and the General Syndicate of the Egyptian Writers Union, headed by the poet Dr. Alaa Abdel Hadi, signed a cooperation agreement with the African Writers Association, represented by its Secretary-General Will Okidrian, and the Egyptian Association for Comparative Literature, represented by Dr. Fatima Khalil, Professor of French Literature and our former cultural advisor in France, and the Egyptian Circle for Gender Studies and Comparative Poetics, represented by Dr. Rasha Saleh, Vice Dean of Helwan Literature, and Professor of Arabic Literature. The five legal bodies have agreed to establish an office for translation from Arabic and African languages ​​into Western languages, based in Cairo, and entitled to open one or more branches It is funded and supervised by the host country, at the initiative of the President of the General Union of Arab Writers and Writers of Egypt.

The poet Dr. Alaa Abdel Hadi says, in a new achievement for the Arab and African cultures led by the General Union of Arab Writers and the General Syndicate of the Egyptian Writers Union, and in a step imposed by the conditions of necessity and importance, and to achieve the hoped-for goal of our club - with other thinkers and institutions - to achieve over decades, and as a contribution From civil society organizations in supporting the presence of the Arab and African cultures in the global cultural scene, which will not be achieved without the initiative to establish an institutional movement interested in the reverse translation from Arabic and local African languages ​​into Western languages.


The agreement was signed in the presence of a number of members of the union office, the board of directors and the general assembly, at the headquarters of the General Union of Arab Writers and Writers, and the General Syndicate of the Egyptian Writers Union. The agreement aims at several items, namely:

Enhancing cultural understanding and communication among the various African cultures.

Translating books from Arabic and African languages ​​into languages: English, French, Spanish and others.

Publishing and exchanging translated books internationally.

Publication of publications between partners.

Training of translators and editors.

Encouraging translation by allocating one or more prizes for the best translated book in various disciplines: cultural, creative, and humanities.


The five parties agreed to form a scientific committee to develop an executive regulation to start putting these important goals into effect. A website and an electronic magazine will be established, with databases set up, and publications exchanged between the countries of the Arab and African Unions and their creators.
