CAIRO – 26 March 2019: Egypt’s KIMA 2 plant is scheduled to be inaugurated on June 30 revolution anniversary, Chairman of Chemical Industries Holding Company Emad el-Din Mostafa announced on Tuesday, March 26.
KIMA 2 is a factory for fertilizer manufacturing that is being built at the existing site of the company's Aswan fertilizer complex at a cost of LE 11.6 billion.
The Egyptian Chemical Industries, known as KIMA, is affiliated to the Chemical Industries Holding Company, producing nitrogenous fertilizers and chemicals, including hydrogen and ammonia.
Mostafa announced that this project is going well regarding files related to services, urea and ammonia, adding that the services at KIMA are 99 percent ready, and that the ammonia unit is starting to load the catalyst and will start at the beginning of next month. The urea unit will operate on June 25.
He added that this project is one of the most important projects developing Upper Egypt
the project cost LE 11.6 billion; 62 percent of which came from bank funding and the rest was provided by contributors, Mostafa said.
He pointed out that the project targets to achieve LE 400 million in the first year of operation, which will increase to reach about LE 1 billion annually with the development of the old part of the plant.
“We expect the factory to pay costs over 8 years, and contribute to the provision of jobs for engineers, technicians and chemists; workers have already been selected. As the project progresses, there will be more jobs for Aswan's people,” he noted.
The plant will produce 1200 tons of ammonia per day and 1,375 tons of urea per day, according to the chairman of Chemical Industries Holding Company.
“In conjunction with Egypt's presidency of the African Union, interest will be greatly increased in Africa and we can export to the continent through the planned roads and railways as well as the Cairo-Cape Town highway and river transport,” Mostafa added.
“These projects will be a link between all countries, beside Qasr port.We already have customers to accommodate the large quantities that will be produced.”
In February, Chairman of Egyptian Chemical Industries Company (KIMA) Eid el-Hout said that the entire plant will start operating on June 25 in preparation for the opening in conjunction with the celebrations of the June 30 revolution.
Hout revealed that KIMA 2 factory which is 95 percent finished will start production in May.
