CAIRO - 2 September 2021: Egypt's President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi asserted the need for concerted efforts during the coming period to back the Palestinian stance toward a political settlement.

In a bilateral meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Cairo on Thursday, Sisi affirmed the need for the resumption of negotiations and the consolidation of truce between the Palestinian and Israeli sides, Presidential Spokesperson Bassam Radi said in a statement.

This should come in parallel with the efforts to unify the Palestinian ranks through the completion of the reconciliation process and consensus among Palestinian factions and powers.

The president also affirmed the importance of backing the Palestinian authority and its role in the Gaza Strip as well as the need to improve the humanitarian and economic situations in the strip.

Sisi stressed the continuation of its efforts regarding the Palestinian cause, in coordination with the Palestinian brothers, with the aim of helping the Palestinian people restore their legitimate rights, in accordance with the international legitimacy resolutions.

For his part, Abbas voiced appreciation of the Egyptian continuous efforts and endeavors to support the Palestinian cause.

He also hailed Egypt's historic and unwavering role in this regard, which aims to reach a fair and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian cause.

This role has been clear in the recent main Egyptian efforts to reach a ceasefire agreement with Israel and Sisi's initiative for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip, Abbas said.

The Palestinian president affirmed that this Egyptian role reflects the depth and privacy of the Egyptian-Palestinian relations, in light of the extended ties connecting the peoples of the two countries.

Abbas affirmed his keenness on coordination and consultation with Sisi on the Palestinian situation and the determinants of the Palestinian stance toward the political settlement.

According to the Egyptian Presidency, the two leaders have agreed, during the meeting, on continuing intensified consultation and coordination on issues of mutual concern.

This comes with the aim of following up on the future steps regarding supporting the Palestinian cause in the various forums and on all levels, the Presidency added.

The Presidency earlier announced that Sisi will receive on Thursday Jordan's King Abdullah II and Palestinian President Abbas.

The leaders will hold a tripartite summit in the presidential Al-Ittihadiya Palace in Cairo, the Presidency added.
